If U.S. veterans are suffering from "accidental" exposure to Agent Orange, imagine the effects on the entire southeast Asia population, including children, who've been exposed to this carcinogen in much higher quantities, for longer periods of time.

Thank you daka1 for this article. I read over the article and it is very sad that many vietnam vets are suffering from such a horrible thing. I also agree that when they used agent orange in vietnam years ago; that it has had its affects on the population in Asia. I wish that they had not used that horrible substance in the military back then. Do you know if they are still using such substances still in the military? If they are, they should be banned from the military for everyone's safety.

The point is that many former soldiers have measurable levels of radioactive materials in their bodies. And this problem can affect not only them but their families long after the soldiers have returned to civilian life.

Agent Orange or Dioxin is a know carcioginic (sp?)(know to cause cancer) and a lot of vets were exposed to it. It was used to defoliate know routes that the NVA used in South Vietnam and Laos and Cambodia. You could always tell when you went into an area that had been sprayed beacuse the taller trees were dead and would fall at any time.
A close friend of mine died from one of the type of cancer that Dioxin causes. We were both in the hospital and he had a sore throat that would not stop bothering him. 2 months later they told him he had cancer and 7 weeks later he was dead.
Actually, dioxin wasn't used in populated areas because it is a known herbicide (kills plants) and it was only banned in the US during the late 70's or early 80's. So, Vietnam isn't the only place that has had children expose to this posion.
