But what is HPV?! What does this abbreviation stand for?

HPV stands for the Human Papilloma Virus. Google this term and you will get many hits. A very common strain of this virus causes the warts that occur on hands and feet. The 'hands and feet' strain is easily treated and often goes away on its own. The HPV strain that is sexually transmitted and that infects the genitals (penis, scrotum, vulva, anus, etc) can cause genital warts that are disfiguring and/or painful. These warts must be treated with stronger meds.

HPV and genital warts are not considered life-threatening but I can tell you that if you see pictures of these warts ... they are not something that you would ever want to get.
