Thanks guys for stopping by! Yes I agree too that both those disasters were awful and my heart goes out to the survivors as well. Hopefully, there will be something done about building requirements in all places. It's good to hear that they are starting to do something about it already. I agree, this is terrible. I worked in Oakland during the Fire Storm of the 1990's. The problem there was that the Department of Forestry and Tilden Park wanted to do control burns for years but the counties and the environmentalists protested because of the smoke pollution. Well, a few months later the fire broke out and destroyed every thing. New regulation prevent any burnable shurbbery with in 10 feet of the new homes and controlled burning is now done. With all the newbuilding going on the space between the fence line and the house has dropped to 5 feet. It used to be 10 feet and this decrease helps the rapid spread of a fire. A lot of new house construction, in Cali, calls for all houses to be equipted with fire suppression sprinkers. Hopefully this will help. It seems like the bulidngs in N.C. were built on top of one another. Loss of life is always a terrible thing. I pray for all those affected. Posted on: 10/31/07 02:45
